Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions people ask most before a first session.
Do you take my insurance?
Cobalt bills some commercial plans directly, and which plans depends on the clinician. We list plan types, not carriers: ask when you reach out and we will check before your first session. We don't bill Medicare or Medicaid. How fees work explains the rest.
What is a superbill and how do I use it?
A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt you can send to your own plan if it has out-of-network benefits. It carries a diagnosis code, which your insurer sees, and your plan decides what, if anything, it reimburses.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what care will cost before you start, and we give you one in writing in advance. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract. You can read about your rights at cms.gov/nosurprises.
How much does it cost and how do fees work?
Your clinician gives you the fee in writing before your first session. We hold a limited number of reduced-fee spots, set with you by household income. How fees work has the details.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. You can pay for sessions with an HSA or FSA card, and we can give you a receipt for your records.
What happens in the first session?
You and your clinician talk about what brought you in and what you would like from therapy, and your clinician explains how sessions, privacy and fees work. You don't need to prepare anything, and you decide at the end whether to book another.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
Sessions are 50 minutes for individuals and 80 minutes for couples. Your clinician sets the pace with you, often weekly at the start, and you can change it as you go.
Are you licensed where I live, and do you offer video sessions?
Our clinicians are licensed in Florida. We offer secure video sessions in states where we are licensed, so for video you need to be in Florida when we meet. Each clinician's license is listed in the footer of every page.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. If someone is in danger, call 911. This website and our voicemail are not monitored around the clock.
What is confidential, and what are the limits?
What you share in therapy is kept private and shared only as the law allows. The limits are few: a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, abuse of a child or of an older or vulnerable adult, and a court order. Your clinician explains them in the first session.
Can you see my teen, and how does consent work?
Cobalt works with adults, couples and families. For a child or teen, a parent or legal guardian gives consent. Before the first session your clinician explains, in plain words, what stays private between a teen and the clinician and what is shared with parents.
What is your cancellation policy?
A session cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice is charged the session fee. If you can't make it, call or send a message as early as you can.
